Barbara Ann Hinthorn, 79, of Independence, died Monday at Mercy Hospital, Independence, Kansas.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday August 22, 2014 at the Potts Chapel, in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Darren Melton of the First Church of Nazarene officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Independence.
Visitation hours will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday August 21, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m., to 8:00 p. m. at the Potts Chapel, Independence.
The family has suggested memorials to the Independence Historical Museum and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel, Independence.
Barbara was born August 17, 1935 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Earl and Helen Sage Bruington. She grew up in Independence and attended and graduated from Independence High School, Barbara then attended Independence Community College from which she received her Associate Degree.
On July 13, 1963 in Independence Barbara was united in marriage to Charles Hinthorn and the couple made their home in Independence. Charles survives at the home.
Barbara worked as a secretary for the Heartland Cement Company and retired after working for 40 plus years.
She worked with the Independence Historical Museum. She also enjoyed and did a lot of genealogy research.
Barbara and her husband enjoyed square dancing and attending local sporting events,.
Survivors include her husband Charles of the home one daughter Leigh Beeson and husband Dev of Parson, Ks. one brother Jim Bruington and wife Laura of Liberty , Ks., one grandson Ryan Beeson also of Parson, Ks.
