Barbara Ellen Hallett, age 80 of Independence, Kansas died Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Labette Health Center in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Pastor Mark Lyon, of the First Christian Church, will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Potts Chapel. Dinner will be served at the VFW at 4:00pm. The family has suggested memorials to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and contributions may be left with the funeral home.

Barbara Ellen Hallett was born July 27, 1940 to Betty Jean Baugher-Strunk at Centerville, Iowa and adopted by Fred and Frances Whiteley of Sewel, Iowa. Barbara married Burnis (Pete) Hallett on November 4, 1961. Together they had two children: the late Denny Lee Hallett of Independence, Kansas and Cindy Ellen Brown of Spring Lake, Coffeyville, Kansas.

Barbara was honorary life member of PTA, Life Member of the VFW, past President of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, member of the American Legion, Independence Museum, bowling association, First Christian Church, and past president of the Meadowlark Girl Scout Council. She graduated from the Seymour High School.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Cindy (Kenny) Brown, daughter-in-law Karrie Hallet, grandchildren: Jeremy Lee (Bridget), Christopher Lee Hallett and Shi Anne Hallett all of Independence, Kansas, great-great grandchildren Zoe Ellen Hallett, Ryan Lee Hallett, Tyler Lee Hallett and Tucker Lee Hallett.
