Barbara Ann (Whittaker) Coddington of Independence, Kansas passed peacefully from this world to her Heavenly home on January 15, 2023.
Barbara was born on June 20, 1934 to Claude and Anna (Downing) Whittaker in Phillipsburg, Missouri. Barbara married the love of her life, Darrell Coddington in Decatur, Alabama in 1967. Barbara enjoyed attending annual family reunions and will be remembered by those who knew her for her sense of humor, telling silly jokes and loving to entertain all those around her. Barbara attempted to make every person laugh and smile and frequented Walmart to do just that. Barbra attended faithfully First Southern Baptist Church in Independence and sang in the choir. Barbara knew the hymns by heart, and bragged she didn’t need hymnals, as the songs were engraved in her heart. Barbara was independent, hardworking, and enjoyed raking leaves. Barbara retired from Social and Rehabilitation Services of Coffeyville.
Barbara is survived by her only son, James Smith and spouse, Janet of Pueblo, CO, and her grandson, Dylan Smith, of the home, brother, Wayne Whittaker and spouse, Peggy of Topeka, KS, stepdaughters, Peggy, Kathy and Karen Coddington, step grandchildren, John, Michael, Victoria, Suzanne, and Crystal. Barbara leaves a host of extended family and friends who loved her so much.
Barbara is preceded in death by her spouse, Darrell, her parents, Claude and Anna Whittaker, brothers, Frank, Robert, and James Whittaker, sisters, Dorothy Whittaker, Katherine Turpin, Patricia Hamilton, and Joan Carter.
The family would like to thank all of Barbara’s caregivers in her last few months of life.
