Barbara Barker

Barbara L. Barker, 87, Independence, Kansas passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Potts Chapel with Reverend Darren Melton officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Friends may register on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving guests from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel. Memorials may be made to Home Town Hospice and may be left with the chapel.
Barbara was born April 10, 1928 in Oaklandon, Indiana to Edgar and Ernestine (Blanton) Mock where she attended and graduated from Lawrence Central High School. Barbara met and married Milton E. (Gene) Barker on February 14, 1970 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The couple relocated to Independence, Kansas in 1974, where they started MILLEE OIL Company as well as several other business's including Go Asphalt Sealing Company. Barbara was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager for the couple's business's. Barbara enjoyed sewing, crafts and had a big love for animals.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Milton (Gene). Survivors include one son Richard (Judy) Self, Indianapolis, IN, three daughters, Carol ( Jimmy ) Slone, Indianapolis, IN, Dena Schicke, Independence, KS, Tena ( Jay) Morgaridge, Wellington, KS, one brother, Thomas E. (Carmen) Mock, Indianapolis, IN, eight grandchildren, Kim ( Rob) Meek, Greenfield, IN, Angie Phelps, Greenfield, IN, Richie Self, Indianapolis, IN, Andria (Gregg) Hruby, Indianapolis, IN, Tamara (Derek) Gish, Bartlesville, OK, Jerrid (Andrea) Schicke, Coffeyville, KS, Cameron Schicke, Cambridge, MD, Lane Schicke, Independence, KS, eight great grandchildren, Kyle and Jacob Meek, Ubaldo, Jacob and Joycelin Sanchez, Abbagail and Solomon Hruby, Layla Schicke, and her beloved pet's Princess and Cappy.
