From a young age, Barbara professed her faith in Jesus, a commitment she lived out in her daily service. During her short hospital stay, Pastor Paul Brandes of Christ Community Church of Shawnee, KS, provided comfort and worship, supporting the family.

Barbara’s lifelong partnership with Phillip began with a memorable first date at the Independence Drive-In, watching "Planet of the Apes," the start to a 53-year marriage.

Her hugs were legendary, and her baking skills produced the best cherry dump cake and orange fluff. She had a wonderful wit and was known for her fantastic rendition of "Happy Birthday”, and hosting family gatherings also known as “parties” through her generous and hospitable spirit.

Beyond her roles as daughter, wife, mom, Grandma, and Gma, Barbara cherished caring for and helping others. She served as a para educator for Caney schools, touching many lives with her compassionate nature.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband Phillip Jay, Phillip (Shelly) Jay, Jason (Sandra) Jay, 12 grandchildren: Elijah, Ellyana, Emerson, Josiah, Emmett, Lena, Fatima, Orah, Chauncey, Evadean, Ashley, and Kate, her brother Kim (Patty) Drum, niece Sarah (James)Young, and many extended family and dear friends. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Sarah Drum.

Barbara found joy in sewing, baking, and watching old western TV shows. These hobbies, like all aspects of her life, were infused with her characteristic warmth and generosity.
