Arnold Alfred Jabben, 85, of Independence, formerly of Cherryvale passed away Friday at the Montgomery Place, Independence, Kansas. A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday September 22, 2014 at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverend Roland Vega officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery Lutheran section under the direction of the Potts Chapel, Independence, Kansas. Viewing hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. to service time Monday September 22, 2014 at the Zion Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends Sunday September 21, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel, Independence, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Church or Harry Hynes Hospice of Coffeyville and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel of Independence, Kansas. Arnold was born August 9, 1929 in Jefferson, Kansas the son of Henry and Anna Harms Jabben. He grew up in Cherryvale and Independence, Kansas attending the Lutheran School. On April 23, 1950 Arnold was united in marriage to Barbara Anna Asmussen and the couple made their home in Cherryvale for 59 years moving to Independence in 2009. Barbara survives at the home. Arnold was a lifelong farmer and worked for thirteen years at the cement plant in Independence, retiring in 1991. He was a life member of the Zion Lutheran Church, member of the Lutheran School Board. He was also a Member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau , serving one term as president on the board of directors.Life member of Cherryvale FFA Alumni. Worked many years with the Montgomery 4 H as a dairy leader. He was the Montgomery County Young Farmer of the Year in 1961. Survivors include Barbara, his wife of the home, two sons Duane and wife Toni Jabben of Independence, Ks., Curtis and wife Kari of Skiatook, Okla., three daughters Diane Gibson and husband Larry of Cherryvale, Ks., Suzanne Kudrick of Altamont, Ks., Janet and husband William Collins of Parsons, Ks., one sister, Arlene and husband Harold Bruington of Joplin, Mo. Nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren Arnold was preceded in death by three brothers Elvin, Raymond and Robert Jabben one sister Gertrude Ruehling and his parents.
