After an extended illness, Arlene Louise Stelting peacefully departed this world to meet her Lord on Friday, November 3, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Jim; two loving children, Gerald (Jenifer) Stelting of Houston, Texas, and Lori Schabel of Independence, Kansas; five cherished grandchildren, Kelsey (Stelting) Thompson, Kayla Schabel, Ty Schabel, Will Schabel, Lyssa Schabel, and one precious great-grandson, Brock Thompson; two dear sisters, Sharon (Robert) Spear and Jodi (Frank) Foster, along with numerous nieces and nephews, friends and extended family. Arlene was proceeded in death by her parents, Teresa and Arlyss Ballinger and her sister, Janet Neds.
Arlene was a remarkable woman who held a bachelor’s degree from Friends University. She dedicated over 25 years of her life to Independence Community College, where she served as a Payroll Accounts Manager. Her commitment and dedication to her work were greatly appreciated by all who knew her.
Arlene was a longstanding member of the Independence Church of the Nazarene, where she tirelessly volunteered as a nursery worker, served as the church secretary and treasurer, and contributed in various other capacities. She was a woman of deep faith and prayer, known for the countless moments she prayed for her children and grandchildren.
Arlene and her husband were also foster parents, extending their love and care to more than 14 children who found a safe and nurturing home in their care. Her love knew no bounds, and her generosity touched the lives of many.
She had a green thumb and took immense pleasure in gardening and tending to her yard. Her happiest moments were spent with her family, and she held a special place in her heart for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. She delighted in shopping for her grandchildren, making each celebration memorable and full of love.
Her affection extended to her pets, including two cats and a dog, which brought her great joy and companionship. Arlene had a heart as big as her love for her family and her faith.
Arlene Louise Stelting will be deeply missed by her family, her many friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts, and her legacy of love, faith, and generosity will continue to inspire us all.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:00am at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas. Visitation will be Thursday evening 5:00-7:00pm at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
Rest in peace, dear Arlene. You were the best wife, mother and friend, and your love will remain with us always.
