Annie Mary (Nash) Wood, 82, of Independence, Kansas passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Cherryvale Nursing and Rehab Center in Cherryvale, Kansas.
Annie was born on November 22, 1937 in Hardinsburg, Kentucky to Arthur B. and Helen (Board) Nash. Annie grew up in Kentucky and Indiana. On July 15, 1969 she married William “Bill” Wood in Waynesville, Missouri where they made their home until 1970 when they moved to Independence, Kansas. Annie retired from ACC as a switchboard operator. Annie being the type that could never sit idle, went to work as a switchboard operator at Mercy Hospital for another 15 years, also working part time at Dr. Pai’s office. Annie loved to work in her gardens, harvesting her bounty and canning her many vegetables. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers, travelling, and square dancing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Helen Nash, son, Dexter Dickerson, brother, James Nash, and sister Kay Raines.
Annie is survived by her husband Bill Wood of the home, sons, Phillip and Sally Dickerson of Midland, TX, Dennis and Angela Dickerson of Dry Prong, LA, and Doug and Rose Dickerson of Independence, KS, stepdaughters, Gloria and Merle Matzen of Eldon, MO, and Sylvia Moore of St. Louis, MO, sisters, Dorothy Gray and Frances Hicks both of Indiana, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. A visitation will take place at Potts Chapel, 122 S. Penn Ave. Independence, KS 67301, on Tuesday, May 19th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A private family service will take place at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a memorial be made in Annie’s name to AWOL.
