Annabel Bretches

Annabel Bretches, age 90, of Independence, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Medical lodge in Independence, Kansas.

Annabel Bretches was born August 2, 1926 in Independence, Kansas to Aaron J. and Jennie L. (Cook) Foster. She grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School in 1944. Annabel attended the Bivins Business School.

On September 27, 1946 Annabel married Charles L. Bretches in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas except for a short time in Garnett, Kansas. Charles preceded her in death. Annabel worked for Sinclair Pipe Line Company from 1944 to 1946. She returned to work at ARCO in 1951 and worked as an IBM Operator, Receptionist and PBX Operator until her retirement in July of 1985.

Annabel was a life member of the Epsilion Sigma Alpha Sorority (Beta Rho Chapter), helped start the Osage Bowman Archery Club and was Secretary of the Kansas State Archery Association. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary Life Member, Cancer Support Group, Local Archery Club and the C.B. Radio Club. Annabel loved outdoor sports, camping, hunting, children and flowers.

Survivors include Julie, Jeremy and Jessica Bruington of Independence, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; one son Charles Rex Bretches; two brothers Jack and Don Foster; her parents Aaron & Jennie Foster; and her grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Foster and Mr. & Mrs. T. C. Cook.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Potts Chapel with the Pastor Mark Lyon of the First Christian Church officiating. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Potts Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

The family has suggested memorials to the First Christian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
