Angus Drew Connell

September 11, 1952 — February 22, 2026

Independence, Kansas

Angus Drew Connell, 73, of Independence, Kansas, passed away on February 22, 2026.

Angus was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, and spent his life doing what he did best: learning, building, fixing, and quietly amazing the people around him.

A chemical engineer by profession and a problem-solver by nature, Angus had one of those rare minds that seemed to understand just about everything. If something was broken, he could fix it. If there was a question, he probably knew the answer—or could figure it out in about five minutes. Friends and family often called him for advice on everything from science and math to everyday life.

One grandchild affectionately nicknamed him “Mr. Spock,” and one of his sons referred to him as Superman—both descriptions that fit him surprisingly well.

Angus was a true jack of all trades and somehow seemed good at all of them. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, farming, cooking, music, and drawing. He could play multiple instruments entirely by ear and had a natural curiosity about how the world worked. If Angus picked up a new hobby, it usually wasn’t long before he had mastered it.

He had a quick wit and a thoughtful perspective on life. One of his favorite sayings was, “The first rule of thermodynamics: You don’t get something for nothing.” It was classic Angus—scientific, practical, and usually delivered at exactly the right moment.

More than anything, Angus loved his family. He was deeply proud of them and always willing to share his knowledge, his humor, and his steady presence.

He was preceded in death by his father, Archibald Connell; his mother, Virginia Connell (Neuman); and his grandson, Rolyn.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Connell (Clark); his children Doran Connell (Jennifer), Ian Connell (Samantha), Sidra Connell (Donny), and Lachlan Connell (Charis); his grandchildren Natasha, Destiny, Jade, Gideon, Kyla, Romeo, Raine, Mazie, Constantine, Isaac, and Declan; and his brother Stuart Connell (Stephanie).

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Robbins Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Arrangements are under the care of Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

In honor of Angus, the family encourages you to stay curious, learn something new, fix what you can, and remember—according to the laws of thermodynamics—nothing in life is free. And, of course, live long and prosper.

Fittingly, on the evening of his service, the planets will align in a rare parade across the night sky. Those who knew Angus suspect he would appreciate the timing—and might even say the universe finally got its calculations right.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
