Alma Pearl White, age 80, of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Regal Estates in Independence, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church or Hospice of Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Alma was born July 5, 1929 near Buxton, Kansas to John Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Attebery HInthorn. She at an early age moved near Longton, Kansas. She graduated from Longton High School. On February 15, 1947 Alma married James F. White in Fredonia, Kansas and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2000. Alma worked as an elevator operator for Citizens National Bank and professional building for about 20 years, she also worked at Corns Bakery. From 1976 to 1984 Alma was a part time employee with Jim White Tank Truck Service. In 1984 Alma became president of White Tank Truck Service Inc. until 1993. Alma was a member of the First Baptist Church Deaconess for several years, Morgantown Grange, also attended State Grange, Lone Elm Grange, Carriers Association, VFW, Eastern Kansas Oil Gas Association, Farm Bureau, Petroleum Club of Independence, Independence Chamber of Commerce and Co. C. 320th Infantry 35th Division. Survivors include two daughters Frances Gail Spillman, Parsons, Kansas, Elaine Kimzey of Elk City, Kansas; four sisters Irma G. Wilson of Sterling, Kansas, Laura Carter of Independence, Kansas, Verna Meise and Marilyn Comstock both of Elk City, Kansas; one brother John Bill Hinthorn of Palm Springs, California; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter Jennifer Spillman Davis and one sister Virginia White.
