Alma Lois Tanner, 96, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. A eulogy will be given by Father Andrew Heiman at Potts Chapel at 9:30 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2013. Interment will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Potts Chapel of Independence. Friends are welcome to leave condolences for the family online at www.pottsfuneralhome.com. Alma was born September 16, 1916 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Henry Tipton and Mary Wilson Tipton. She attended the Kingman School district and graduated in 1936. She made her home with her Aunt Lula R. Wilson in Wichita, Kansas until her death in 1946. Alma worked as a nurses aide for Dr. Empson, the hospital, and other area nursing homes. Alma married Earl Nimrod, Church of Christ Evangelist, in 1942. He died in 1968. She later married George W. Tanner in 1984. He preceded her in death in 2003. Alma is survived by her step daughter, Pat Bishop and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. The family has suggested memorial contributions to AWOL and those remembrances may be left in care of Potts Chapel of Independence.
