Alfred E. Goodwin, 89, of Wichita, Kansas formally of Elk City, Kansas and Chanute, Kansas passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Meadow Lark Homes in Wichita, Kansas.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10.00 a. m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Darren Melton Officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas.
Alfred was born January 27, 1926 in Elk City, Kansas the son of Emmett and Imel (Debo) Goodwin. He grew up in Sycamore, Kansas attending the Sycamore school system and later received his GED in Kansas City, Kansas.
He served in the United States Navy from March 25, 1944 and was honorably discharged March 26, 1946 as a Seaman First Class.
On October 25, 1975 in Leavenworth, Kansas Alfred was united in marriage to Laurel Alcock and the couple made their home in Joplin, Missouri. Laurel preceded Alfred in death.
Alfred was a supervisor at the Fort Leavenworth prison of the laundry and dry cleaning department.
Survivors include his son Bill Goodwin and wife Holly of Colorado Springs, Colorado one sister Margie Hight of Independence ten grand children and 12 great grandchildren.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents Emmett and Imel Goodwin, two sisters Irma Lessman and Evelyn Denton one son Tom Goodwin and two grandchildren Danny Goodwin and Kama Goodwin.
