Alene Barker, 63, of Independence passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Mercy Hospital.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 200 South Penn Ave., Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Melvin J. Simpson Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisonville Cemetery, Rural Independence, under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Independence.
A book signing will be held Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The family has suggested memorials to the Young's Chapel Building Fund and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
Alene was born March 25, 1952 in Vallejo, California the daughter of Henry and Mattie (Brown) Barker. She grew up in Independence and graduated from the Independence School System. She then attended the Independence Community College.
Alene was a Data Entry clerk in the IT Department for City Publishing Company until they closed.
She was a Charter Member of Independence Homecoming, Evangelist Missionary, YWCC Leader, and Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include two sisters, her twin sister Pearlene Barker of Independence, KS. and Sharon Barker also of Independence, KS., six brothers; Eugene Barker, Robert Barker, Larry Barker and Joseph Barker all of Independence, Frankie Barker of Oklahoma City, OK., Danny Barker of Wichita, KS.
